Photo Number 1357

This is a snapshot from  an antique shop someplace in Minnesota.

Baby in stroller 1940s

A small child out on a patio area in a Taylor Tot or one similar to it stroller.  This was a “pusher”  I think the handle could be taken off along with the foot rest to convert it into a walker.  Frank F. Taylor made them at his company in Ohio .  This style was popular during the 1940’s.  They came in various shades of blue and white and red and white.

I will be cleaning out some old picture files in the next few weeks, you never know what I will find.

( I asked.)

Baby and girl abd bassinette PR Garage sale

An older sister holding her baby brother or sister.  I am not sure why the bassinet is in the photo, maybe the baby was in the bassinet.  It looks like there is a milk can in the background perhaps they lived on a farm.  I cannot tell what year the car was, but I think the photo may have been taken in the early 1940’s.

This is a snapshot from an antique shop in Minnesota…not sure which one. Baby in stroller or pram

No doubt this snapshot was taken in the 1940’s.   The carriage appears to be made out of wood and some type of fabric with a sheen to repel water.  It is a deeper stroller, the baby  had a great place to nap.

Baby stroller defaced with crayon DL Antiques

A beautiful Victorian era baby carriage/pram.  It looks like it has iron wheels, a wooden frame and a wicker basket.    The photo was colored on with a purple crayon, but I felt it was still worth rescuing.  There is a tiny baby in the carriage.

Update from Iggy:

George Everell Dutton (May 8, 1866 - Mar. 5, 1929) is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois.

"He is the elder of the two sons of General E. F. and Rosina Dutton. His brother William Paine Dutton associated with him in business.

George Everell Dutton was born in Sycamore, De Kalb county, Illinois, pursued his early education in the public schools and his more specifically literary course in Lombard University at Galesburg from which institution he was graduated with the class of 1889. His life record stands in contradistinction to the generally accepted fact that the sons of wealthy men are never successful in business. Mr Dutton on the contrary is well known as a man of marked energy displaying excellent capability and management and keen discernment in investments. Upon his fathers death he succeeded to the presidency of the Sycamore National Bank filling the office until 1901. His investments also have reached over the line in Canada where he operates with his brother William P Dutton a line of retail lumber yards..."

Meet the handsome Will Clark who had his photo taken at the Genelli Studio at 122 N. Main St. in Butte Mont.

The photo was most likely taken in the 1890’s.  Montana became a State in 1889.  I found reference to the photographer being in Butte from 1890 to 1897 and I think she might have been a woman.

To sum up this series, here are some of the names.
Len and Evelyn Grotnes   Brother and Sister
Virginia Vogt
Frang Belnartz
George Mc Carthy
Helen Danheim
Fran Kandt
Myrtle Kandt Roberts
Margaret Garrahy
Then there are some first names.
Lorna, Nell, Pearl, Gwen, Hjardy, Mel, Adeline, Verna, Alice and of course Chas. or Charlie.
I am certain that the gal who took all the photos graduated from High School in DL in 1936-1937 and then went to a Business School in Mpls.  Her family and friends visited Tamarac, a cottage on Detroit and Shell Lake. She loved the outdoors and photography.
She will remain M for Mystery Woman for now,  Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)
Update: The correct spelling is Garrahy according to a relative.

Update from Maureen:
This is my aunt, Margaret Gertrude Garrahy. She was born in 1922 and grew up in Fairfax, Minnesota. In 1946 she married Donald K. Williamson, and she passed away in 2009. My dad said he thought this photo was taken from around the time she worked in Detroit Lakes as a beautician. Unfortunately, he did not recognize the other woman in the photo.

This photo went Full Circle 77 on November 13, 2013.

1938 Summer at Detroit Cottage.  Charlie had worked all night at brownies.  The people next door had invited the whole congregation of the Swedish church out there.

Detroit Lakes is often called Detroit…or at least it was back in the day.  I think she is differentiating between the cottage at Detroit Lake and Tamarac Lake.

I think her family had hunting property out at Tamarac.

I am pretty sure Miss M  lived in Detroit Lakes Minnesota at one time, either that or she visited often.  Perhaps her parents lived in Detroit Lakes.

1938 Tamarac This photo is simply marked Tamarac 1938.  I am certain it was taken at Tamarac Lake or possibly even Tamarac Wildlife Refuge which was established in May of 1938.  I might add that it was almost scandalous for women to wear pants.

I think the couple on the right are Miss M’s parents and the other couple are an Uncle and Aunt.  I am allowed to make up any story I like if the photo is not marked!
