The photo was developed in August of 1958.
I found the mural behind them interesting. It looks like a bridge over a river.

Thanks for stopping by. Do come again:)
Update from Iggy:
I suspect (but am not certain) that this is Algot E. Norrbohm (3 Jun 1886 - 28 Nov 1961) married Anna E Reilien (30 Apr 1887 - 9 Oct 1965) on June 24, 1908.
He was a painter and they lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 1930 US Census lists 10 children: Mariette E 21, Kirby R 19, Howard E 18, George W 16, Doris J 15, Elizabeth A 11, Audrey J 9, Robert W 7, James R 4, Joseph W 3 (in 1930).
They lived at 2829 41st Avenue South which is only a block from Lake Street.
The Hasty Tasty was a cafe located on Lake Street

Funny how similar old photos are to my own family's. I have a similar photo of my grandparents on their 50th. I remember murals like this too.

Insofar as the "Sis" reference, Anna had 9 brothers and sisters (mostly sisters) and her family moved from her birth state of Wisconsin to Beltrami, Minnesota some time before 1900. Nine members of Anna's family, according to FindAGrave (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=95838662) were caught and perished in a forest fire in 1910. It appears only two sisters survived, Ellen and Josephine.
ReplyDelete..and brother William, who I suspect "owned" this photo, as he lived in Baudette, Lake of The Woods, Minnesota.
DeleteRemarkable research for an interesting short story. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteEveryone should read that news story/obit. Thanks Iggy.
DeleteWhat a sobering story. Thanks for finding all that, Iggy. I hope this one makes it to a Full Circle story, too.
ReplyDeleteFrom Jeff: Algot and Anna are his grandparents Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your offer of sending the photo, but I have an original of the photo as well. As to comments about the fire from my grandparents, I was quite young when they died and never really had the opportunity to hear them discuss it. My father told me a little bit, but most of the info I have about the fire came from a newspaper article that was published at the time. Algot and Anna had 10 children, none of which seemed too inclined to discuss the fire as I grew up. Evidently it had been a very sensitive topic for my grandmother and was avoided for her sake. Anyway, thanks for the interesting article and all the research you did. My dad's uncle Bill (William Rulien) who was a survivor of the fire, had quite a long and interesting history in the Baudette, MN vicinity. If there's ever a story done regarding that area, he'd be a colorful subject. Thanks again. Jeff
