Photo Number 1338

This is the last snapshot in the Miss M series.
Margaret 1943 Tamarac DL Ant
Love her pants and boots, she is a outdoors kinda gal!
Margaret 1943 Tamarac DL Ant back
Margaret  Garrahy  + I  1943 at Tamarac
To sum up this series, here are some of the names.
Len and Evelyn Grotnes   Brother and Sister
Virginia Vogt
Frang Belnartz
George Mc Carthy
Helen Danheim
Fran Kandt
Myrtle Kandt Roberts
Margaret Garrahy
Then there are some first names.
Lorna, Nell, Pearl, Gwen, Hjardy, Mel, Adeline, Verna, Alice and of course Chas. or Charlie.
I am certain that the gal who took all the photos graduated from High School in DL in 1936-1937 and then went to a Business School in Mpls.  Her family and friends visited Tamarac, a cottage on Detroit and Shell Lake. She loved the outdoors and photography.
She will remain M for Mystery Woman for now,  Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)
Update: The correct spelling is Garrahy according to a relative.

Update from Maureen:
This is my aunt, Margaret Gertrude Garrahy. She was born in 1922 and grew up in Fairfax, Minnesota. In 1946 she married Donald K. Williamson, and she passed away in 2009. My dad said he thought this photo was taken from around the time she worked in Detroit Lakes as a beautician. Unfortunately, he did not recognize the other woman in the photo.

This photo went Full Circle 77 on November 13, 2013.

  1. Her graduation date tells me that she was the same age as my mom. It is a neat collection that may end up with some relative.

  2. She is wearing the same boots (and what appear to be the same pants) as in the second photo on

This might be Margaret G Garrahy (b. abt 1923 living in Wellington, MN in 1940)

Epic fail - i couldn't figure out who these folks were.

I suspect she didn't spell some of the names correctly - kind of odd for a business school graduate... If many/most of these folks were "school mates" - they came from all over Minnesota (Wilmar, De Graff, Renville, New Ulm, Detroit Lakes and so on) and perhaps from out of state too.

    1. Nope not a failure at all. I sent an inquiry off to the Grotnes Family. If all else fails I will go scour the Yearbooks over at the Becker County Historical Museum when I get done with work this Fall:)

    2. Perhaps the out of state issue is because they are classmates from the business school--unless Miss M attended a private, boarding high school???

Hope you hear back soon from the Grotnes family!
