This is a CdV from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
The photographer was Bertrand of Cresco Iowa. Cresco is in the north eastern part of Iowa.
Memorial photography was sometimes the only photo that a family had to remember small children. Photographers would be summoned to take the final photograph shortly before or after death.
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again:)
Does kind of look like a memorial photo. So sad how many children died in infancy back then. I don't know how the parents survived it.
ReplyDeleteA memorial photo was my first impression too.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see that and know what it meant. I know it was a much more common thing back then than now. I agree with Teresa: I don't know how the families could handle so many such losses. My daughter's friend is close to a family who just lost their baby in surgery, and it was so hard on everyone. It happens now, too, but thankfully only rarely.
ReplyDeleteSo very sad.
