The photo is indeed from Norway. The language on the back however is Danish (which comes as no surprise).

Update from Eastoak:
I found your blog today and greatly enjoyed. Thank you! And I've arrived at what I could give you some help.
This "Photo Number 945" was taken on Atami, a resort town in Shizuoka, Japan.
The sign of a shopping arcade (right above) reads "Atami Ginza". A detailed photo of the arcade sign on the following blog (not mine) in Japanese, gives evidence.
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/saiun4gou/e/c93e90f8cac546ede653314c5defc3c3

I remember my cousins spent their honeymoon in Atami in 1980's. Incidentally, the shop on the left is a sweets shop, because the signs shows sorts of "yokan" (Japanese jellied sweets).

Update:
Most of the readers say.
King George VI and the Queen Mother

More info from Iggy:
In 1939 King George VI became the first "reigning monarch" to visit Canada. During that trip, the King's consort, Queen Elizabeth, initiated the tradition of the "royal walkabout", though her brother-in-law, The Duke of Windsor (formerly Edward VIII), had when still The Prince of Wales in 1919 been frequently meeting with everyday Canadian people; as he said: "Getting off the train to stretch my legs, I would start up conversations with farmers, section hands, miners, small town editors or newly arrived immigrants from Europe."

The 1939 royal tour of Canada was a cross-Canada royal tour by George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It was the first visit of a reigning monarch to Canada. It began 17 May 1939, and saw the royal couple visit every Canadian province as well as the United States and the Dominion of Newfoundland.

Forgotten Old Photo reader Craig from California has tried to find homes for these photos without much luck.  They all have names on them.  There are well over 200 photos in the box. I will try to get some scanned soon.  The ones in the blue folder are very interesting so they will be our first mystery.   I am working and have many commitments this summer so free time is almost non existent.  Thanks Craig for mailing them!  Hopefully we ( my readers and I) can help find some homes for them.

Update from Iggy:
In the Minnesota, Territorial and State Census, 1849-1905 and 1900 US Census, we find Ella Sophia Christenson (b. Nov. 1883), living in Money Creek, Houston County, Minnesota. Money Creek is 8 miles from Rushford, Minnesota, which sits near the Fillmore-Houston county line. This girl's (the one in the census records) parents were Christian M (b. abt 1854 in Illinois) and Lina/Tina M (b. abt 1856 in Norway) Christenson/Christianson.

She had a large number of brothers and sisters. She no longer appears with her family in 1910, when she would have been 26.

Ella Sophia Christianson, age 24, on 17 Feb 1909, in Money Creek, Houston, Minnesota, married Martin Laumb who was the same age.

In 1910, the couple lived in Anderson, Barnes, North Dakota. The 1920s, found them back, with their only child, Ruth Esther, in Rushford, Minnesota. Ella Sophia died in 17 Nov 1974 at the age of 91.

Ruth E. Laumb (b. 31 Aug 1913 d. January 19, 1989 at age 74 in Rushford) was a elementary school teacher and principal and appears to have never married.

Postcard Agnes Sigrid and Simon Fagstad DL Antiques
Three children..teenagers most likely.  Have you ever seen a chair like the one on the left? It looks like it has a very high headrest.  The photo was most likely taken in the early years of 1900..1905 to 1915. The Cyko postcards were in use from 1904 to 1920.
Postcard Agnes Sigrid and Simon Fagstad DL Antiques back
Agnes, Sigrid and Simon Fagstad or maybe Fogstad?
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

Update from Iggy:
Agnes Fagstad (b. abt 1893-1894 in North Dakota), Sigred Fagstad (b. 1894 in North Dakota d. 1991), and Simon Fagstad (b. 23 Dec 1896 in North Dakota d. 29 Sep 1991 in Minnesota), all living in Grand Forks county, North Dakota in the 1920 US census, were the children of Ole (b. abt. 1855 in Norway) and Martha Fagstad (b. abt 1862 in Norway).

I don't know what became of Agnes.

Sigrid married George Bang and remained in Grand Forks county, ND. She had a son named George Bang, Jr.

Simon married Lillian V. Jenson whose Find-a-grave record has some interesting details such as "They farmed in Agnes Township, Grand Forks County, near Niagara, N.D. ... They lived on the farm Simon's father homesteaded, until moving to Larimore, in 1956." and a list of offspring.

Update From Rex who is a relative.
Well I've not forgoten who Simon, Sigrid and Agnes were. They are my grandfather's cousins. He lived with them after his mother died when he was about 18 months old. This photo was probably taken at their farm home near Niagara, ND. I have photos of them at an older age. Simon had three daughters and I beleive they live in Illinois.

Their parents were Ole and Martha Fagstad and the farm is still family owned and continues operation to this day. They came to this country from Norway. Ole and Martha are buried in the Elk Valley Lutheran Church cemetery along with other of their children.

Susie

Hi Connie, Thank you for the cd. I received it this afternoon. I'll send a little donation with a big thank you.

It is wonderful what you are doing. These pictures would have been lost to my family. I think they are a treasure.

I don't have many stories, but I do remember. I had asked my mother about her life and I was having her write it down, as we drove to Mobile, Alabama, from Pensacola. She said her favorite vacation was to go see her Grandmother and Grandfather Barnes. They gave her dolls with beautiful doll clothes. I think that says something... means they were nice sweet people. You can't fool children. Thanks again.

I like to leave a bit of a trail with the photos and where they were sent.
