Update from Abra:
Gidding is actually Warren & Nellie Giddings, according to census records. They lived in Brandrup, Wilkin County, MN. In 1910, Nellie Green (nee Russell) is a 25 year old divorced mother of two boys, Harold and Jasper Green, living in Prairie, Kansas with her parents. In 1920, she is in Minnesota, married to Warren, and the boys are listed as Giddings. In the 1930 census, the boys are still at home with their parents, and they are listed as adopted sons of the head of household (Warren). Jasper is now going by Jack.

Warren Lewis Giddings (1872-1950) died in Los Angeles. Nellie (1883-1974) died in San Diego. Jasper (1906-1970) died in Los Angeles. Harold (1904-1978) died in Breckenridge, Wilken County MN.

Harold had a couple sons, with a likelihood they are still living. I will see if I can find them and get that info to you or see if I can find a family tree..

  1. Who knows who these people are, but maybe someone is or will be searching for one or more of them in the future. Thanks for posting- it's a great picture of real life long ago!

  2. I checked out a couple names this morning...some were successful, some not so much ( I think some names may be misspelled). I believe Benedict Mortz is misspelled and should be Moritz--I found him in Benton County MN. There were many people with the name Winfield Adams, but one was in Benton County, close to where Benedict Moritz was. However, other names seemed to be all over the place. My guesses are that this is a farm couple with their harvest/threshing crew and some of the help traveled about (much like our migratory workers of today). Unfortunately, while I found some Gidding families, no one had these initials. I had hoped this was labeled by the family themselves and have the correct spelling, but perhaps I should try a few other versions. :-) There were a couple hits for Harold Gidding, but not sure if they fit. I'll keep looking. ~Abra

  5. Harold moved to Culver City, CA - seems he owned a hardware store. A couple sons still live in that area - I've no luck with chasing down an address or email. They might be in facebook - but I couldn't find them.

  6. The 1920 US Census shows Charles J Crouch (b. abt 1902/1903 in Iowa), son of John\Jefferson and Ellen Crouch - what is interesting is that Warren and Nellie are listed as next door neighbors.
