This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Relaxing on a Sunday afternoon. I had fun looking at everything in this old photo. This gentleman seems to have everything he needs in his corner, a wicker rocking chair, a lamp, reading material stacked on the small table, more books under the radio and an ash tray.
I also found it interesting that there appears to be a live plant..looks like a philodendron to me..growing out of the lamp base that is on the side table.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
The book title looks like "American Chronicle"!?
ReplyDeleteThe wiring of the lamp and radio? is split - you can see four wires and two wall "plugs". Its been a long time since I've seen such wiring!
ReplyDeleteRay Stannard Baker wrote the autobiographical "American Chronicle" in 1945.
I think I can see "Baker" on the cover too.
I love this photo. It instantly brought back memories of my grandpas and their corners. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice photo. It makes me think the whole house was comfortable and pleasant. Papa looks as if he is well established in his little nest. I am sure Mother was happy he was happy there. You are right, he does look as if he is 'set'. All a man could desire is at his finger tips. And an escape route is right there too!
ReplyDeleteOh! I forgot to mention, watering a live plant planted in an electric lamp's base! That sure is before government safety regulations. But, then again, when I was 3 years old Santa brought me an electric child size stove and electric iron and ironing board.
ReplyDelete(1952) I couldn't tell you how many bad burns I suffered while ironing and cooking!
I really love your blog !!
ReplyDeleteLove vintage too :)
Carla.
PS : check at my blog if you have time :)
The table lamp with a planter base is quite interesting. I imagine that it was made of bright "brass" with a dark green shade. I wish I had such a neat lamp! There is a very similar planter lamp in the 1947 holiday movie, "Miracle on 34th Street." About 75 and 76 minutes into that movie there is an apartment scene [with Maureen O'Hara and John Payne's characters], in which that similar planter lamp [with a somewhat larger planter and shade] is clearly visible for quite some time. Again, I wish I had such a neat lamp! I should start searching for one on eBay. :-) Merry Christmas!
