  3. Those kids were so lucky to have a school bus. I am sure the distances were just to far for them to walk. It is a marvelous photo.

  4. Al sent me an email, he thinks it may say Badger School District..I will send him a higher resolution photo and see if that helps to see it better:)

  5. I found a reference to a Consolidated School District 42.

A Charles A. Hausler "Photograph of pencil and ink" of one of the school buildings is:

http://special.lib.umn.edu/findaid/xml/naa006.xml about 1/4 the way down the page.

The school districts must have been renumbered since Badger is no longer #42.

    round and round,

  7. Mama told me about riding a buck board to school behind a horse named "Old Nell." Old Nell had a flatulence problem - so the ride was never without entertainment.

Mama said that once she had some gas and all the kids teased her by calling her "Old Nell"

I am a volunteer with the Edwin Washington Project. We are producing a book documenting Black and White school experiences in Loudoun County, Va. The book covers the period from Reconstruction through the 1960's and deals with segregation and its affect on Black and White school education. I'd like to use the image on your web site at https://lh6.ggpht.com/-_JL2BKhLIoA/Tj9Z9rLgeGI/AAAAAAAAMXk/d36qUekcQOs/s1600-h/Consolidated%252520school%252520district%252520Dorset%252520Antiques%25255B14%25255D.jpg It's an image of a horse drawn school hack and I'd like to include it in the Transportation section of the book. Our records show such horse drawn school hacks were used in Loudoun County, VA in the early 1900's,but we don't have any pictures of them. .

How do I get permission to use that image in our book? The book would include a citation with the image acknowledging the source of the image.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

    Nathan
