Photo Number 536

This is another snapshot from the Detroit Lakes Antique Shop.1938 Tango Island Park Philadelphia DL Antiques

This is a 1938 photograph taken in the Tango Gardens in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  I wonder if the gardens are still there?

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  2. I live in suburban Philadelphia, near Valley Forge National Historic Park, and I've never even heard of Tango Gardens or Tango Island Park.

I suspect it is long gone - there used to be (back in the 20's and 30's) a number of steamboat lines that took people to a number of amusement parks located on islands in the Delaware River - the only one I am vaguely familar with is this one (Burlington Island Park) with included a huge dance hall and jazz musicians:

  3. I love how relaxed and comfortable this photo is. She is posing, certainly, but she is comfortable with the photographer - family member or other loved one.

  4. Makes me think of Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World" because of the pose.
