Photo Number 476

Postcard Azo Triangles Up Ontario Motley ice Cream Shop
I purchased this photo at the Antique Shop in Motley, Minnesota..the one with the Ice Cream Shop.  No, I did not have Ice Cream..but there are two Antiques Shops in town and I had to distinguish between the two.
I bought this photograph because of her shoes.

I think she looks much older than him and believe it to be a Mother and Son..although I am often wrong.
( Many of the readers think that this is a couple..they could correct! )
Postcard Azo Triangles Up Ontario Motley ice Cream Shop
This photo was taken by a photographer named MacDonald at Lindsay ONT. When I took the photo out to check for names I found it to be a Real Photo Postcard, an Azo from the years 1904 to 1918.  I think that the womans clothing leans more toward the 1918’s.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from Norkio:
I would also agree as to her fashion being closer to 1918 with the slightly raised hem of her skirt. Even a couple inches was scandalous! :-)

BTW you can still buy those boots. I have had several pair over the years and they are very comfortable. These were probably made from a double last making them actual left and right shoes and like what we wear today. Shoes in the 19th century were made on a single last and you broke them in to your feet.

  2. I think the book cover shows a little dog and the title has the word "Puppy" in it.

    :)

Those high boots the ladies wore always look nice. I wonder when they went out of fashion?

I've been in Lindsey, Ontario, Canada! It is near Kawartha Lakes, west of Peterborough. My parents went boating up there one (very hot) summer and I went with them.

  3. She seems to be holding her hands in such a way as to assure that all her rings show? They are so posed it robs them of true poise...but it is a fascinating picture, none the less.

  4. It looks like mother and son to me as well.

  5. I think she could easily pass as his bride. I don't see it as a mother and son. It's far too romantic in appearance. She's just a plain looking woman who does not look like a young flower. She probably looked a bit older than her years even when very young.

  6. I don't think it looks like a mother and son. The bright lighting on his face makes him look much younger, and the shadows on hers make her appear older. It wasn't a well set up and posed photo shoot, but I do believe they are a married couple. I would guess they are around 30 years old with no huge age gaps.

  7. I'm going with spouses as well. I would also agree as to her fashion being closer to 1918 with the slightly raised hem of her skirt. Even a couple inches was scandalous! :-)
