Photo Number 437

This photo was tucked into the back of the Nettie Parks Album.
Extra Gladys Niel MVP Lyle Glenn
These are Nettie and Wesley Parks children.  Gladys, Niel, MVP ( Mabel), Lyle and Glenn.  I wonder if this is their house?
In the 1910 Census here is a list of the children:
Child  Mabel Parks  F 13y (1897)….about 10 years old in 1907
Child  Glenn Parks  M 11y…………….about 8 years old
Child  Gladys Parks  F 9y…………….about 6 years old
Child  Lyle Parks  M 7y……………….about 4 years old
Child  Neal Parks  M 5y………………about 2 years old
Child  Thurston Parks  M 3y
Child  Wylma Parks  F y 3m
So I will say that this photo dates to right around 1907.  I would bet that MVP or Mabel labeled this photo..in fact I have been rethinking the statement that I made about Nettie writing in the album..it could have been Mabel or Gladys.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  2. Finally a photo with the children in it!! I was begining to think the kids had gone through the album after Nettie died and "cherry picked" out all the photos they wanted - Perhaps we will yet see a picture of Nettie.

Perhaps photo 428 is Wesley and one of the "boys" or one of Wesley's brothers...

  3. P.s., I was thinking the same thing about the mystery photo labeler - there are a lot of references to "Momma's cousin" and such - I though one of the girls was helping Momma label the pictures or even after Nettie died since there are a bunch of "don't remember the names."

  4. I look here every day and I usually don't comment. But today's photo really hit home with me. Like Alan, I was thinking of all those people (5 children and a set of infant twins and two parents) in that little house. My first thought was that most of us have master bathrooms larger than than entire house. But the house looks neat and tidy. Even with all these children and a tiny house, Nettie must have enjoyed keeping her house as much as we do today in our 3000 square foot homes. The children are neat and well dressed. I have a feeling this family must have been happier with their meager possessions than we are with our huge homes and two cars and designer clothes.

  5. I use to be quite disturbed when I'd see a photo that some one had written on the image side. Oh the horror! LOL I have to admit now that after seeing so many with identities that will never again be known, I'm actually happy to see one like this where someone took the time to label it. Like everyone else, I definitely said "wow" when I saw the tiny house. Things have sure changed over the years! It's a bit of a treat to not only see the children but to get a glimpse of their life by seeing their home. :)

  6. It's amazing how we "need" such big houses with so many rooms when in the past people did quite well with so little. These children look healthy and fit, the family was obviously loving enough to obtain and keep photographs, and had some means.
