This photo measures 5 1/2 inches long by 3 3/4 inches wide before it was mounted on the elaborate card. Finished it measures 10 inches by 6inches.
With the hair adornments I think we can safely say that this is a little girl ..and by little I mean tiny..as she appears to be just a little peanut perched almost in a movie star type pose in that chair.
I purchased this photo at an Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota. I believe that we can date this photo around 1910. The red patch is a wax seal that has not been imprinted with anything. I am not sure how common they were or in what year photos they appeared.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
I just love your old photo finds ! I have always enjoyed old photos, they have such amazing history!
ReplyDeleteIf its not strictly decorative, what is the purpose of this wax seal? They were (and still are) used in authenticating a document.
ReplyDeleteOr to seal a bottle and such... I'm going to investigate this some during a lunch break.
She's cute as can be!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how kids perceived themselves in photos way back then...did they get freaked out looking at themselves as if they were looking into funhouse mirror? She is unusually tiny in this photo perspective, almost doll-like.
