Photo Number 180

Sisters?  Perhaps. Friends?  Maybe.   This came from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota. I will guess that this is from the late 1880's.. they almost have bangs..the dresses or blouses seem to be heavily pleated in the front.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from Norkio:
Big plaids like that also tell us this lady had some means, as matching plaids on a dress required extra fabric. The sleeves with their puffed shoulders are fairly typical of the late 1880s to 1890s.

  1. Wouldn't you love to know if they were sisters or friends. A very interesting photo the way it is turned on an angle.

  2. It is an interesting print. Putting it at an angle was really wild for back then.

  3. I love this picture. I think your dating is fairly correct. Big plaids like that also tell us this lady had some means, as matching plaids on a dress required extra fabric. The sleeves with their puffed shoulders are fairly typical of the late 1880s to 1890s. Very interesting that the picture is on the diagonal, I wonder if the photog had a small area to work with, and in order to fit them both in the shot came up with that. I agree that it is quite daring for the time. :-)

  4. Such fun to come and see the vintage photos and to see on the sidebar that some have actually been identified. Next winter when I run out of things to blog I might have to scan some of my old photos for fun :)

  5. Another interesting photo! I have also never seen an old photo done on a diagonal as this one.

  6. The woman on the right looks a whole lot like the twin sisters on the show Big Love. Very distinctive face.
