Photo Number Forty-Six

Kathryn at 3 1/2 and Alice Mae at 8 months.   I think this photo was probably taken in the late 1940's.  It seemed to be a trend back then to photograph your children in the doorway outside, at least there was a blanket to sit on..do you suppose that they did this because they ran out of flashbulbs? Or did they just want an outdoor photo taken after a long winter?
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. My family laughs because almost ALL the photos of my parents/grandparents from the 1940's were taken outside at the front door! We have the doorways memorized! Thanks for sharing another picture.

  2. I think it definitely had to do with the lighting; perhaps the lighting/flash on the earlier personal cameras was not very sophisticated, thus resulting in poor indoor pictures; outdoor pictures seemed to be the most typical. Boy, we've come a long way in a relatively short time. ~Abra

  3. From the shadow on the right, it looks like the trees were leafed out.

Almost all of my old family photos were taken outside. A lot of them were taken by automobiles. Whenever we had company, we always took pictures just before they departed. Now, I seldom take photos of company.

  4. I wonder if the box camera was used and there was no flash apparatus. Yes, being the baby of the family, I think we have about 12 pictures of me as a young child. If I hadn't gone to kindergarten and had school photos I would have been in bad luck. The photos they have of me are all out on the front porch.

  5. Kathryn looks annoyed to be holding Alice Mae for the picture, lol. My guess is outdoors for better light.
