Photo Number Thirty-Nine

This is Margaret Peters, this is a photo that came from South Dakota.  It was taken by Andre in Dixon, Illinois.
I have a request in at the Lee County Historical Society for information about the Andre Studio.  So far I have not heard back.  If I hear something from them..perhaps I will donate the photos back to them!
I will guess that this is a 1910 photo.. that dress must have been itchy and hot in the summertime.
Thanks for dropping by, come again:)
Update*** I think I found Margaret's Obituary

  1. I agree with you about that dress; especially that "turtle" neck. I'm the type of gal that cuts all tags out of my clothes and I have been known to wear things wrong side out if the stitiching bothers me!!!

  2. Wow. She must have had an awful long neck to wear that thing. It looks miserable to wear. She has such a sad and far off look about her.

  3. I am impressed with the lighting use to get that photo. That was really and nice dramatic shot.

  4. Looking at this again I realized that the style of neck and the lace ruffle is similar to those blouses that were popular for younger women beginning in the 1890s and on to about 1905, maybe a little longer? I could have been a blouse and not a dress. Likely the lace is not too itchy as synthetic lace wasn't available. Natural fiber lace is much softer, the higher the quality the better. That being said, I have a blouse with a tiny bit of lace on the neck edging and it is itchy because I'm not used to it. I suppose if this was the height of fashion we would wear it and think we looked awesome in it! :-)

  6. I am restoring a photograph for a customer also taken at Andre Ground Floor Studio in Dixon, Illinois. I decided to search the studio online, which led me to your page. Thought it was neat other photos from the studio are still in existence. Amazing it made it to south Dakota and now going back to Illinois!
